“You can find me where the music meets the ocean” -Zac Brown Band
In honor of that first feeling of summer today (March 14, 2019), I present to you Zac Brown Band. Nothing is better than blasting country music with the windows down when it’s 70+ degrees outside, especially Zac Brown. The band is a mix of country, reggae, and just pure soul. The first time I was ever exposed to this vibrant group was in the summer of 2009. Their song “Toes” is a source of nostalgia for me as it brings me back to a care-free time at the beach. Wherever I was (on the sand, in the beach house, etc.), I could hear the lyrics, “I got my toes in the water, a** in the sand.” And that is when/ where my love for Zac Brown Band began.
The lead singer of the the band is, obviously, Zac Brown. He was born and raised in a small town in Georgia where he was surrounded by music. He started to play guitar at age 7, and never looked back from there. Soon, Brown decided that he wanted to be a performer. He made a band in high school and even went to college to major in music. Eventually, Zac Brown left school with the hopes that he would succeed as a musician. In only one year, he began to see success. He moved 30,000 units of albums in 2003, and Brown finally reached stardom in 2008 with his hit single, “Chicken Fried.” His band won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2010 (an amazing achievement).
Not only does Zac Brown and his band play music, they also give back to the community. And that is why I like them so much. Brown started a camp with his mates that is tailored toward kids with autism and ADD. They founded this camp before they started seeing significant success, and it has only taken off from there.
Overall, Zac Brown is a great musician and an even better person. He knows how to pick someone’s mood up whenever they are down, and his poppin’ sound is great for the summer. Feel free to listen to one of his hits, “Homegrown,” on YouTube.
